Ernst & Young Australia to Acquire MSSP and Cybersecurity Firm SecureWorx

By Tracey E. Schelmetic

Ernst & Young Australia announced this week that it plans to acquire MSSP and cybersecurity consulting firm SecureWorx (not to be confused with the U.S.-based Secureworks, an MSSP and XDR service provider subsidiary of Dell Technologies). The acquisition is expected to close on the first of September subject to conditions precedents being met. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SecureWorx, based in Glen Waverley, Victoria, Australia, is a secure multi-cloud managed service provider that offers advanced IT security services and an independent cyber security advisory. The 10-year-old company has guided Australian businesses and government agencies toward the agility and cost-efficiency of secure cloud environments, managing the complexity of multiple clouds and ensuring security controls and standards. This includes 24/7 security operations managed services onshore in Australia with government cleared personnel and certified facilities.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Ernst &Young Australia’s cyber security services offering to clients in responding to new mandatory requirements in the Australian Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure) Bill of 2020 which increase the need for sovereign cybersecurity capabilities.

“The latest updates to the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act outline new requirements that will require significant investment for onshore cyber capabilities to detect and combat threats,” said Richard Bergman, Ernst & Yung Oceania Cybersecurity Lead Partner, in a statement.

A recent report by Microsoft found that threat volumes are rapidly increasing and now costing the Australian economy $29 billion per year.

“SecureWorx has a set of cybersecurity assets that complement EY Australia’s existing cybersecurity team and capabilities including government accredited hosting facilities in Melbourne and Canberra and an accredited Security Operations Centre in Melbourne,” said Bergman. “SecureWorx complements and extends EY’s existing cybersecurity capabilities along with previous EY Australia acquisitions of Aleron and Open Windows.”

To learn more about how managed service providers can improve cybersecurity, plan to attend MSPEXPO, part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW series. MSPEXPO has been designed to help service providers understand how they can drive more recurring revenue, increase the valuation of their companies, grow, and protect their networks and deliver better customer service. It will also help companies looking for MSP partners to understand how MSPs can help them grow. The show will take place from February 8-11, 2022, at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. For more information or to register, visit the show website
