ABRY Merges Breakthrough Technology Group, NexusTek

By Paula Bernier

Private equity firm ABRY Partners has combined Breakthrough Technology Group and NexusTek in an effort to create a one-stop shop that organizations can turn to for help with their cloud migrations.

BTG is a managed private cloud service provider that’s been around since 2007.  Its Adaptable Cloud Services include private cloud offerings that are hosted in geographically redundant SSAE 16-certified data centers. These facilities employ a software-defined architecture that brings together compute, storage, and other elements to optimize enterprise workloads in the cloud.

NexusTek is a Denver-based IT consulting and services business focused on the western region of the country. It provides organizations with cloud services, cybersecurity services, help desk, Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM services, server monitoring, and VoIP. Serving 1,200 organizations, NexusTek has seen 34 percent compound annual growth in the past three years.

“ABRY believes that as businesses continue struggling with their cloud migrations, there is an immediate opportunity for a service provider to distinguish itself as the single partner that can help them navigate an increasingly turbulent and complex environment,” said James Scola, a principal with ABRY. “By merging BTG with NexusTek, we hope to empower organizations with a nationwide partner that allows them to increase their competitive advantage with technology. NexusTek will be unique in its ability to answer this demand and will emerge as a leading national cloud and managed service provider.”

In December, ABRY acquired NexusTek and made a majority investment in Breakthrough Technology Group. Established in 1989, ABRY specializes in business and information services, communications, and media investments. Among the companies in its portfolio are Aegis Sciences Corp., Atlantic Broadband, CyrusOne, Datapipe, Grande Communications, KORE, Masergy, RCN, TelX, and Thomsons Online Benefits.
