Windstream to Acquire MassComm in MSP, SD-WAN Play

Windstream to Acquire MassComm in MSP, SD-WAN Play

By Maurice Nagle

It is only January 2nd of the New Year, and 2018 is shaping up one for the movers and shakers of the technology world. They say, “Fortune favors the bold,” and this year it will be those bold enough to reach for the brass ring that shall attain it.

According to a recent FCC filing, Windstream Communications intends to purchase MASS Communications in an all-cash transaction, which is aimed at accelerating Windstream growth in the delivery of SD-WAN and as an MSP.

MassComm is a CLEC, providing a wide range of services that include consultation and connectivity management for voice, data and network technologies. As an authorized CLEC in Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, Massachusetts, Illinois, Florida, Connecticut, California and the District of Columbia it makes a strong addition to Windstream.

While 2017 was strong for the SD-WAN Expo Diamond sponsor, it is primed and positioned for a record breaking 2018. Riding the momentum of the MASS Communications acquisition, it is able to reap the rewards of an exploding SD-WAN market.

The Windstream SD-WAN solution is already showing marked success, and is but a fraction of the firm’s portfolio, which includes wholesale voice and data services, fiber-to-tower connections, Ethernet and wave transport as well as special access services.

“The combination of MassComm’s innovative services and customer base with Windstream’s larger CLEC operations and fiber network will enable the combined company to increase its competitiveness by expanding its portfolio of services, generating efficiencies that benefit customers, and serving more customers over its own facilities where it can,” explained the FCC filing.

From optical transport networks and your office Ethernet, to cloud connectivity and beyond Windstream is quickly becoming a one stop shop for carriers and network operators.
