Reports Forecast Strong Growth for the Managed Mobility Services Space

Reports Forecast Strong Growth for the Managed Mobility Services Space

By Paula Bernier

Indeed, IDC’s Worldwide Semiannual Mobility Spending Guide, which was released earlier this month, forecasts worldwide mobility revenues will increase from $1.5 trillion this year to exceed $1.7 trillion in 2020.

"Despite the belief that the mobility market is maturing, there is still plenty of opportunity to drive enterprise spend especially at the software layer," said Carrie MacGillivray, IDC’s vice president for mobility & Internet of Things. "By 2020, the software market will increase spend by 15%, driven by mobile application development and mobile security capabilities."

Also this month, AskLinkerReports.com came out with a managed mobility services report that looks at the procurement, deployment, and management of mobile apps, devices, and PC software and services used by remote enterprise workers. It provides analysis on demand, forecast, key trends, market share, and supply.

Markets and Markets, meanwhile, says the MMS market will grow from $4.56 billion this year to $19.4 billion by 2021.

“The device management segment by function is expected to hold the largest market share during the forecast period,” Markets and Markets comments. “More than half of the total MMS market revenue is contributed by device management, and the trend is expected to continue during the entire forecast period. This is mainly due to significant rise in the adoption of BYOD among organizations to gain competitive advantage. The mobile device management is expected to grow due to the extensive usage of mobile devices for accessing business content. The security management is also projected to show great growth opportunities with a high CAGR during the forecast period.”

Gartner says there are six MMS categories, including application and collaboration management; device and system management; mobile service management; program and financial management; security and content management; and sourcing and logistics management.

The Gartner MMS Magic Quadrant lists DMI, IBM, and Tangoe as the leaders in the space. It doesn’t list any companies in the challenger quadrant. Niche players include AT&T, Enterprise Mobile, MOBI, Orange, Vox Mobile-GEMA, and Zebra. And visionaries, according to Gartner, are DT, Fujitsu, HPE, Telefonica, and Vodafone.
