NTT Makes Major MSP Play with Atlas IT Acquisition

By Laura Stotler

NTT Communications is making a major play in the managed service provider (MSP) space, announcing the acquisition of Atlas Information Technology. The company is set to become part of NTT Com as of April 1 and will help the communications powerhouse build out its managed network, infrastructure and application services.

Atlas specializes in remote monitoring and management of IT resources for SMEs and enterprises alike. The company offers 24/7 services via a managed services model, enabling cost savings along with performance improvements. NTT plans to absorb the company and broaden its own network, data center and cloud services offerings.

Atlas IT will become NTT Com Managed Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Com, through the acquisition. The company’s goal will be to accelerate global expansion of managed services offerings while also serving existing mid-market and enterprise customers. The company has an expansive list of customers for its remote infrastructure and application management services, located in North America, EMEA, Asia and Australia.

"With the financial support of NTT Com we believe the new NTT Com Managed Services business will help us realize our ambition to be a global leader in managed networks, infrastructure and application management," said Shigeru Kitabatake, SVP Managed Services at NTT Com Managed Services.

"After several years of successful growth, I am delighted that Atlas IT has been chosen to lead the global expansion of NTT Com's managed services business,” said Damian Skendrovic, who will serve as CEO of NTT Com Managed Services. “With the direct backing of NTT Com we are well positioned to realize our global ambitions and better serve our expanding global customer base."

Earlier this month, NTT announced new ultra-low-latency connectivity service between the Japan Exchange Group and Singapore Exchange. The service provides connection speeds of 63.5 milliseconds along with extremely low latency for an international leased line connection. The offering is designed to improve the agility of trade investors for high frequency trading.
