JDL Looks at Managed Service Providers and Service Delivery

By John Casaretto

JDL Technologies is publishing an e-book this month, and within its pages it highlights a survey that looks at what companies expect from Managed Service Providers. It puts a special light on what happens in the early phases after a contract is signed. The findings are intriguing, but not unexpected. Managed Service Providers have been a major force in information technology for many years. It is a competitive business that has eaten companies alive, while others have thrived. The companies that put together the best formula of service, value, and efficiency are the ones that typically come out ahead. It's that simple, and the report points to various factors that support that very same notion.

The survey shows that the top factors behind managed IT services adoption are:

  1. 36 percent of respondents wanted to become more efficient
  2. 34 percent of respondents come to managed services as a way of dealing with the growing complexity of information technology
  3. 32 percent of respondents were looking to improve reliability and reduce downtime

Additionally, wireless service was the top IT service used by the respondents, coming in at 88 percent. Virtualization was next at 81 percent. Managed services came in at a very close 79 percent of correspondents. Security services, including network assessments popped into fourth place at 62 percent of respondents. 23 percent of respondents indicated they plan to conduct network security assessments sometime in 2016.

Not all providers are equal, and some of the criteria the respondents pointed out were very interesting. 24 by 7 support was ranked by 46 percent of the respondents as the highest single factor in selecting a provider. 40 percent looked at MSP reputations as the next most critical factor.

The reported arrival of the e-book appears as though it will be timed closely to the upcoming MSPEXPO that is taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida between January 26 and the 28th. The survey could be a subject of conversations that take place at the event.

The survey was conducted by Spiceworks and on behalf of the JDL Technologies Company. The preview survey looks compelling and this will be a publication to look out for.
