Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect service makes it easy to establish a dedicated network connection from an organization to AWS. By using AWS Direct Connect, a company can establish private connectivity between AWS and its datacenter, office, or colocation environment. In most cases this can reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, while providing a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections.
The collaboration between XO Communications, B AE Systems and Fortinet has led to the offering of a Managed Security Bundle for businesses using the AWS Direct Connect service. The solution from these three companies is expected to increase connectivity speed, as well as automate security for AWS Direct Connect customers.
The following remarks were made by Jake Heinz, senior vice president of marketing and product at XO Communications, "Our new managed security bundle for AWS Direct Connect is an integral element of our network-enabled cloud strategy helping businesses to effectively and efficiently leverage both public and private cloud services to maximize their business productivity. In today's environment where data security is a top priority, businesses can effortlessly leverage services designed for a higher level of security for their AWS Cloud data accessed through the XO network."
The bundle uses firewall technology from Fortinet, along with managed security services for BAE, both of which will run on XO’s MPLS network. The goal of this teamwork is to provide customers with an all-in-one solution in which customers will be able to not only cut down on their security costs, but also increase automatic detection and prevention capabilities.
Chad Whalen, vice president of cloud services at Fortinet, said "We are committed to our strategic partners and expanding Fortinet development and collaborative initiatives on AWS. Uniting with key Fortinet partners like XO and BAE to support this AWS Direct Connect managed security bundle enhances the customer experience with high speed connectivity to the AWS Cloud, leading Fortinet firewall technology and managed security from a single provider."
