A new managed telematics services partnership has been announced by Novatel Wireless, which specializes in M2M wireless solutions powering the IoT. The company is providing intelligent mobile hotspot capabilities to QVIS Monitoring, a U.K. surveillance specialist.
QVIS will be using an out-of-the-box telematics solution from Novatel, featuring the MiFi Drive MT 3060 wireless appliance to create hotspots. The offering includes event reporting software as well as airtime, letting QVIS add a new line of services with recurring revenue. The solution features a variety of mobile tracking services that provide usage-based reporting for the insurance industry as well as fleet management. The latter feature works for commercial businesses and government fleets as well as consumers.
The MiFi solution is easily deployed as a plug-and-play device, and is installed through a vehicle’s OBD II port. It features an on-board smart agent for collecting and controlling vehicle data, which is then securely delivered to the cloud. It is also able to run real-time reports based on events like vehicle diagnostics, driver behavior and location. QVIS may in turn offer these services to customers for a simple monthly fee.
"Novatel Wireless was quickly identified as having the best, most versatile offering on the market," said Darryl Froome, account manager at QVIS. "QVIS is known for providing sophisticated monitoring services to businesses, so the addition of mobile tracking is a perfect addition to our portfolio. This type of all-in-one solution is exactly what we needed in order to quickly deliver on our customers' desire to deploy mobile tracking as part of their overall monitoring programs."
Last month, Novatel finalized a deal with AT&T in which the operator issued network approval of the MiFi Secure SA 1100 offering. The offering will be used for pre-installed security devices on AT&T’s network, letting home security alarm providers expedite 3G cellular upgrade requirements. Smart home appliance communications are easily sent through a single touch point, via Wi-Fi and Z-Wave, making it easy for security providers to offer customers value-added services and gain recurring revenue streams.
