Ericsson and Intel Security Team up on Managed Security Services

By Laura Stotler

Managed security services are a logical and valuable addition to any suite of service provider offerings. Telecom operators are looking for affordable and easy to roll out solutions that will provide value and peace of mind for their customers. With that in mind, Ericsson and Intel Security have teamed up to combine their expertise and offer a comprehensive managed security solution.

Ericsson is providing managed services capabilities as well as delivery and network security expertise, while Intel Security is building on that with its portfolio of consumer and enterprise security solutions. By teaming up, the companies are hoping to attract MSPs and telecom operators, who will benefit from being able to combine communications services with security and local response offerings.

Initial solutions from the two companies will include intrusion prevention and detection services as well as Web and email security. The companies also hope to help service providers better support enterprise customers in protecting intellectual property, data, devices and identities.

"Telecommunications networks are a critical component of the economic and social infrastructures that we rely upon,” said Chris Young, senior vice president and GM of Intel Security. “Together, Intel Security and Ericsson are working to keep the well over three billion people across the globe that use these systems safe and secure."

Ericsson certainly has expertise in this area, supporting networks that connect more than 2.5 billion subscribers globally. The company also works with networks carrying more than 40 percent of global mobile traffic.

“Ericsson is the leader in telecom managed services with the scale, skills and people required to make Intel's security solutions available to telecom operators around the world,” said Jean-Claude Geha, vice president and head of managed services at Ericsson. “Together, we will be able to provide exceptional managed security solutions to telecom operators."

MarketsandMarkets forecasts the market for managed security services will reach $31.86 billion by 2019, representing massive opportunities for telecom operators and MSPs. Managed services like firewalls, DDoS protection, vulnerability scanning and analysis and reporting are all expected to play an important part in market growth, forecasted at a healthy 17.3 percent CAGR from 2014 through 2019.
