MSPAlliance Reports on State of Managed Services

MSPAlliance Reports on State of Managed Services

By Casey Houser

The International Association of Managed Service Providers, also known as the MSPAlliance, has more than 25,000 cloud computing and managed service provider members in its ranks. Until recently, it was unknown exactly how those members, as a group, provided their services and where they saw profit. However, the latest study from the MSPAlliance, 2015 State of the Market, shed some light on its group's functions.

The 2015 State of the Market report consists of findings related to surveys that the MSPAlliance conducted with more than 10,000 of its North America-based members. It looked specifically at the demographics of each member's service area, the markets it targets, its sales data, and the personnel who manage those sales. The most noteworthy finding within the report was related to the revenue, $154 billion, the report estimates that North American members provide in a calendar year.

That figure is based on the results of the sample population the report studied and includes all revenue related to managed services that the cloud and MSPs provide. Furthermore, notes Charles Weaver, the CEO of the MSPAlliance, the revenue and associated figures give its community a window into the details of how managed services operated in the region.

“A first of its kind research initiative, this reports uncovers very surprising details of how managed service providers are embracing cloud computing, marketing, and selling their services, and where they are seeing profitability,” Weaver said.

TMC's coverage of managed services covers many different aspects of the brand. Everything from cloud computing to security services were mentioned even in just the first few months of this year.

Research such as this from the MSP Alliance can help propel these types of services by providing insight about how they actually function. Weaver noted that the areas of service compensation and lead sourcing have been elusive to many MSPs. It is like they have functioned adequately—to $154 billion—but were still roaming in the dark. Insight about how others in the same group function could potentially lead to even greater generation of revenue in North America and across the globe.
