Caribbean IXP Brings Carrier Choice to Region with New Carrier-Neutral Telecom Hotel

Carrier choice options in the Caribbean region just got a massive infusion as Caribbean IXP announced it is developing the first Tier III Carrier-Neutral Telecom Hotel. The new hosting facility will be centered in Trinidad & Tobago and will be geared toward meeting the needs of enterprises, ICT solution providers as well as government organizations.

The facility opens up the carrier market in the region, and has already secured a number of customers and Tier One carriers. Carribean IXP is a newly formed corporation backed by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), the Caribbean Network Operators Group and the Packet Clearing House, as well as a U.S.-based investment company.

Caribbean IXP is being designed to facilitate the development of secure, private and custom data centers and will also provide efficient peering services as well as cloud services support. The entity will also offer business continuity services for companies in Trinidad & Tobago as well as throughout the South Eastern Caribbean region.

Due to the collaborative nature of the new facility, it has been designed to meet the needs of primary, backup and disaster recovery services and also complies with international standards for construction, including power, cooling, security and privacy. It also exceeds international standards for a number of vertical markets like telecom, banking, energy and governments.

Trinidad & Tobago is located outside of regional hurricane zones, and also offers lower energy costs than other locations in the region. Amenities of the new facility will include access to major communications providers including land-based and wireless access as well as submarine networking.
