Unified Office's SDN-Based Cloud Architecture Helps SMBs Operate Efficiently

By Laura Stotler

When a Los Angeles quick-serve restaurant franchise found that one of its locations was getting overwhelmed with phone calls, they turned to MSP Unified Office for help. The company, which specializes in SDN-based hybrid cloud solutions, came up with an efficient solution to help the customer – and the customer’s customers.

Unified Office was able to use its cloud architecture to route calls from one franchise location to another, less busy restaurant. This helped improve customer service and ease the burden for the franchise owner, who has to contend with 75 restaurant locations throughout the area.

“The business, the revenue capture stayed within the company,” said Ray Pasquale, CEO and founder of Unified Office. “And that’s business continuity.” Pasquale spoke with TMC CEO Rich Tehrani at the recent TMC Editors Day Boston 2014 about the company’s geographically diverse network of switches as well as work in the managed VoIP and UC services space. Unified Office specializes in serving SMBs and the company’s Total Connect Now service architecture is specifically built to deliver reliable services to that market.

The company serves branch offices as well as remote workers via a small device that sits at the customer premises. The offering utilizes software that provides a full duplex path between the cloud and the premise using Unified Office’s adaptive highest quality routing protocol (HQRP), which was announced at ITEXPO Miami earlier this year.

Unified Office doesn’t stop at voice services either, and the company’s offerings include messaging, soft clients for a variety of mobile devices and a WebRTC prototype that is being developed. Pasquale said the company is planning an announcement related to analytics in the near future as well.

The MSP also received a round of funding earlier this year, led by two Boston-area venture capitalists. The money is being used to build out Unified Office’s presence throughout the U.S. as well as develop new and existing services.
