IBM Opens SoftLayer Cloud Center in Paris

By Rahul Arora

IBM announced this week that it will open a new SoftLayer cloud center in Paris, France. With the establishment of the cloud center, IBM will be able to provide cloud infrastructure services, including bare metal servers, virtual servers, storage, and networking in France. The new cloud center has a massive capacity and can integrate with company's private network with all SoftLayer cloud centers and network PoPs across the globe.

IBM Cloud has invested $1.2 billion in expanding its operations around the world. The company recently opened a SoftLayer data center in Melbourne, Australia. The Melbourne data center followed recent launches in Toronto, London, and Hong Kong. The facility in Melbourne will provide 10Gbps network connections to SoftLayer services with less than 40 milliseconds of latency from anywhere in the world.

"We're addressing clients' and countries' growing desire for data sovereignty head on," said Lance Crosby, CEO of SoftLayer. "With each new cloud center we're bringing our complete cloud services portfolio to the doorsteps of local customers. The Paris cloud center allows us to support workloads and applications from French customers who want their data to stay in the country and secure in the cloud, and provides our global clients with an opportunity to get even closer to their end user customers in the region."

SAP SE also recently selected IBM as a strategic provider of cloud infrastructure services for its business-critical applications - accelerating customers' ability to run core business in the cloud. The SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service is now available through IBM's highly scalable, open and secure cloud. SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud will expand to major markets with the addition of the IBM cloud data centers. This is expected to enable customers to deploy their SAP software around the globe in a faster and more secure environment that is backed by IBM's proven cloud capabilities.
