Managed Service Provider Week in Review: Working with the Cloud

By Laura Stotler

When it comes to managed services today, offerings are largely centered on the cloud. Backing up the cloud, providing on-ramps to the cloud and cloud services, managing cloud environments, making sure the cloud is secure and compliant with regulatory standards – all these tasks fall under the purview of today’s MSPs. This week’s top managed services headlines reflect just how closely the cloud and managed services are intertwined.

Veeam Software is getting ready to roll out its Veeam Cloud Connect solution later this quarter and has announced five service providers that will support the offering. Veeam Cloud Connect is part of the Veeam Availability Suite v8 and provides customers with a secure and integrated way to move backups to an offsite repository managed by any MSP they choose.

EarthLink is offering improved accessibility to cloud solutions and managed network offerings with its new updated myLink Customer Portal. The platform is customizable and may be easily integrated to offer a single point for accessing an array of network services, whether they are located on premises or in the cloud. Updates include a new “control point” design that provides access to all data, voice and IT services tools via a customizable dashboard.

Advent One, an Australian MSP, has teamed up with Brocade for its new managed cloud environment. The service provider is using Brocade’s switch/router networking solutions at the core of the solution to create a carrier-grade IP network and manage a variety of applications. The solutions enable Advent One to offer VPNs, IP telephony and virtual desktops through its managed cloud portfolio.

Logicalis has been chosen by Nottingham Trent University in England to install hybrid cloud systems that improve technology at the university and help it meet its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 48 percent by 2020. The MSP is using the Joint Academic Network (JANET) to deliver the hybrid cloud, which will support 3,500 staff members and 28,000 students across three campuses.

MSP ViaWest, which also offers colocation services, has launched its new KINECTed PCI Compliant Cloud solution to combat data security issues surrounding card payments. The solution is audit-ready and uses virtualization and security technologies to protect data for customers that accept, store, process and transmit credit card data.
