ViaWest Launches KINECTed PCI Complaint Cloud to Combat Credit Card Fraud

By Laura Stotler

The recent Home Depot credit card breach was just one in a long list of major data security issues this year involving big name retailers like Target, eBay and Michaels Stores. And the issue seems to be getting worse as thieves come up with better and more intrusive ways to hack data despite the myriad security solutions being deployed.

Colocation and managed services provider ViaWest is offering a solution for its customers and has launched its new KINECTed PCI Compliant Cloud. The audit-ready offering uses virtualization and security technologies to protect data for customers that accept, store, process or transmit credit card data – a major percentage of its customer base.

And according to ViaWest, 88.9 percent of organizations failed their 2013 PCI baseline assessment, a pretty disheartening figure. PCI DSS is the de facto security standard for processes surrounding payment card data.

"We've designed our PCI Compliant Cloud solution from the ground up to satisfy the needs of customers who want to protect themselves against PCI DSS non-compliance," said Jason Carolan, CTO at ViaWest. "Our virtual private cloud leverages a dedicated, secure network infrastructure that enables data security in the cloud without having to invest in additional hardware, software, or in-house compliance expertise."

Offered as a compliance-as-a-service solution, the cloud offering provides a fully audited infrastructure as well as an expertly staffed compliance department. Additional features include 99.9 percent availability SLAs on compute resources.

“The importance of choosing the right providers to help transition your company beyond compliance and into a secure infrastructure cannot be emphasized enough,” said Matt Getzelman, director PCI Practice at Coalfire. The company specializes in offering advisory and support services for governance, risk and compliance management. “ViaWest’s attention to detail on their compliant cloud solutions and secure infrastructure provides a level of security in which customers can feel confident.”
