Managed Service Provider Week in Review

Managed Service Provider Week in Review

By Laura Stotler

Virtualization and cloud computing are becoming increasingly entrenched in the managed services world, and more and more companies are partnering and integrating with VMware to capitalize on that. The company dominated the MSP landscape this week with a slew of new initiatives and alliances.

The week began with the company announcing it had rebranded its vCloud Hybrid Service as the VMware vCloud Air solution. The move is part of the expansion of the company’s VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) and includes a variety of value-added service solutions based on its hybrid cloud platform.

MSPs are jumping right on board with the changes, and cloud security and data encryption management company CloudLink Technologies rolled out its CloudLink SecureVM for VMware vCloud Air offering. The solution provides a centralized approach to managing data security on Windows and Linux-based VMs. Not to be outdone, application performance infrastructure provider Riverbed Technology announced that three of its products have been designated as VMware ready and are supported on VMware vCloud Air. The Riverbed SteelApp Traffic Manager, Riverbed SteelCentral Services Controller for SteelApp and Riverbed SteelHead CX have all achieved VMware Ready vCloud Air status, and the company has also been joined the access tier of the vCloud Air ISV Partner program.

CloudPhysics also made enhancements to its SaaS-based cloud platform this week, offering insight into virtual infrastructure throughout a data center environment. A significant new feature is Global Insights for VMware users, which enable benchmarking of virtual infrastructure against global metrics.

VMware wasn’t the only company making a splash on the virtualization front this week, and cPacket announced its new cClear performance monitoring solution for physical and virtual networks. The unified solution offers real-time monitoring for mixed networks and provides a comprehensive view of the network via Smart Port distributed sensors based on the company’s algorithmic chip.

In other partnership news, Continuum has expanded its partnership with IBM company Fiberlink, and has integrated the company’s cloud-based MaaS360 mobile device management (MDM) platform with its RMM solution. The combined offering features a comprehensive enterprise-wide view of all mobile devices and applications and is a way to help MSPs and enterprise users manage and expand their BYOD programs.
