Rackspace Expands Partnership with CommVault to Enhance Managed Backup Service

By Laura Stotler

Rackspace Hosting has improved its Managed Backup service through an extended partnership with CommVault. The MSP has revved up its backup offering by integrating the latest enhancements to CommVault’s Simpana 10 software.

The Managed Backup service from Rackspace is designed to offer reduced risk and rapid recovery of data in the event of an outage or loss. The solution is powered by the Simpana platform, and now leverages several major upgrades including workflow automation and global reporting.

On the cloud front, Simpana 10 was recently designated with a Rackspace Private Cloud Certification. The software underwent extensive testing and validation to achieve readiness within the Rackspace OpenStack-based Private Cloud Software v2.0. This means that customers wishing to migrate IT operations and applications to the cloud can be assured of a secure and smooth process thanks to the designation.

Customers may also create virtual instances using Rackspace Private Cloud powered by OpenStack to run any type of application. When used with the upgraded Simpana software, virtual machines may achieve file-level backup and recovery of data inside individual instances for granular control and assurance.

"CommVault has made some important changes in Simpana 10 that will help us scale with our customers and their business needs as they grow," said Tim Symchych, senior director of strategic sourcing at Rackspace. "We back up approximately 66 petabytes of customer data per month using Simpana software and CommVault has become a trusted advisor."

CommVault also offers a Service Provider Program for companies like Rackspace, designed to accelerate time to revenue for those using Simpana software. Simpana is designed to be an open cloud data management platform that may be easily integrated across a range of storage technologies, cloud infrastructure platforms, applications, hypervisors and operating systems. It also offers management and reporting tools that provide an enterprise-wide view into data through a single platform.
