Cisco Teams with Centerity on Unified Monitoring for SAP HANA Offering

By Laura Stotler

When Cisco sought a comprehensive management solution for its SAP HANA Cloud and Managed Service (CMS) offering, the company needed an something that could provide business management service capabilities for a variety of equipment and applications. The SAP HANA in-memory database platform holds a huge amount of promise as the cloud and big data analytics markets explode, and Cisco was looking for a partner that could help them capitalize on that potential.

The company ultimately decided that the Centerity Monitor Solution was a good fit for their SAP HANA environment, offering a unified architecture and “single plane of glass” through which to manage multiple layers of Cisco’s offering. The result is that Cisco customers can view the entire SAP HANA landscape, including operating system, storage components, Cisco UCS servers and network infrastructure and the SAP HANA database. And since monitoring and management are offered as a managed service, they may be scaled as the SAP HANA environment grows as well as expanded to cover additional devices and apps within the infrastructure.

“Although there are many tools that monitor SAP HANA, Centerity offers an end-to-end monitoring solution via a unified platform that enables customers to get the most out of their investment,” said Marty Pejko, COO of Centerity Systems, Inc. “We’re raising visibility from the device level to the business level to focus on the best end-user experience.”

“Our customers need to know more than just how each individual component of the system is performing,” added Joe Duarte, product manager, Cisco managed services for data center at Cisco. “What our customers and their end users ultimately care about is that all the components work together and deliver high-performance results.”

The Cisco SAP HANA CMS solution includes the Cisco UCS B440 M2 High-Performance Blade Servers, the UCS C220 Rack Server and the UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis. Additional components include the UCS 6248 Series Fabric Interconnects, Cisco 2911 Integrated Services Routers and Nexus 5500 Series Switches all of which are monitored via a unified platform with a single location for management and reports.

The Centerity component lets customers create different logins for managing report and dashboard access internally, so security isn’t compromised. The result is 24/7 monitoring and management capabilities with the ability to perform root-case analysis without draining internal resources. Service degradations may be spotted quickly as well, before critical impact can occur.

Ultimately, the Centerity partnership provides an important value-added service to the Cisco SAP HANA CMS solution, enabling Cisco customers to glean maximum value out of their SAP HANA installations.
