Interactive Storyteller Cloudbook Implements GenieDB DBaaS Solution

By Laura Stotler

Cloud and software company Cloudbook has taken storytelling to new levels with its mobile client-cloud server app, which enables publishers to activate their stories to become interactive multimedia experiences. The company now has a stronger application with high availability and minimal latency thanks to a partnership with GenieDB, a database-as-a-service (DBaaS) provider.

Cloudbook is using the GenieDB solution for MySQL to offer its international user base a better and more cost effective experience. The company has deployed the MySQL-as-a-Service offering, which lets Cloudbook use a LAMP stack with their MySQL database, providing them with cost savings and the ability to maintain their existing MySQL investments.

The GenieDB offering provides a number of benefits to Cloudbook, since they may leverage their existing knowledge and investment in MySQL without needing to make any code changes. The company can also utilize multiple nodes and cloud providers for their offering to maximize efficiencies and save money. The DBaaS offering provides independent operating nodes that sync automatically after failure, as well as seamless replication of data to globally distributed nodes.

"GenieDB's MySQL-as-a-Service simplifies the process of distributing and replicating our data across multiple time zones," said Vince Vasquez, CEO of Cloudbook. "We are now able to provide the same level of performance to our customers anywhere in the world."

"Cloudbook's innovative storytelling software needs to be available 24x7, with fast access in multiple geographies," added Cary Breese, CEO of GenieDB. "The GenieDB MySQL-as-a-Service allows Cloudbook to be highly available even during server or datacenter outages so that Cloudbook can focus its development resources on product enhancements and delivering a great user experience."

Cloudbook’s interesting offering is largely geared toward publishing sales reps, enabling them to create an interactive experience to tell, and sell, a story through video and other multimedia services. The solution is specifically designed for tablets and mobile devices, with stories available both online and offline and including a variety of visual and audio elements to quickly explain otherwise lengthy stories or presentations.
