By Laura Stotler

A new managed service from social media company HootSuite is designed to manage the risk inherent in corporate use of social networking technologies. The company’s new service it designed to help companies maintain compliance while dealing with a variety of challenges presented by corporate use of social media tools.

The new Managed Security and Compliance services from HootSuite offer features to alert companies in the event of account hijacking as well as an audit tool to eliminate illegitimate profiles. The services also provide a training simulation to keep companies up to speed on social media technology and advancements.

“It’s important to have your team aligned and prepared to handle any situation that could compromise customer service or brand reputation,” said Jamie Stein, senior manager of social media at ING Direct, which has tested the new services. “HootSuite’s Situational Simulation prepared our communications team for our recent company re-naming launch so that when it took place, our team was able to handle the response from our clients and the public effectively and efficiently.”

The Situational Simulation helps companies create a response plan for managing situation that could spike activity volume on social sites like Twitter or Facebook. It also engages users across the organization to react to social media surges via a controlled environment, using the HootSuite dashboard. HootSuite then offers a summary and recommendations for enhancing company processes and strategy.

Additional features include a Social Media Asset Audit, which identifies and governs both authorized and unauthorized social profiles. It then creates an access control map so that admins may identify legitimate profiles and set up users who are permitted to post to them, while helping to eliminate illegitimate profiles.

Social Media Profile monitoring keeps track of company-sanctioned social media profiles for both security and compliance breaches. The ongoing service from HootSuite also offers custom notifications if changes are made to account profiles to prevent hijacking, as well as real-time content moderation to ensure content adheres to company compliance policies.
