Pacnet Opens Cloudspace II Data Center and Colocation Facility in Singapore

Pacnet Opens Cloudspace II Data Center and Colocation Facility in Singapore

By Laura Stotler

APAC data center and colocation provider Pacnet has opened its Cloudspace II (SGCS2) facility in Singapore. The data center design is significant in that it is the first to be recognized with the Uptime Institute’s Tier Certification of Design Documents. The third-party Uptime Institute, a division of The 451 Group, offers data center research, consulting and certifications with the goal of improving data center performances and efficiencies.

The new $90 million Pacnet facility is eight stories tall and 155,000 square feet, and was built to meet Tier III criteria. It was also built in accordance with the BCA Green Mark scheme, which is similar to the LEED certification granted by the US Green Building Council. The facility also complies with the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s technology risk management guidelines, which address a variety of potential security threats. It has already undergone threat vulnerability risk assessment, ensuring it meets financial services industry security requirements.

"With Singapore firmly entrenched as a dynamic financial hub, the Infocomm Development Authority's (IDA) recent push to develop into a big data hub translates into a rising need for data center services," said Giles Proctor, vice president of data center construction and operations at Pacnet. "We are excited about launching Singapore's first data center with Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute, and continuing to grow along with the Lion City in the years ahead."

"Singapore is committed to being Asia's preeminent place for doing business,” added Jacqueline Poh, managing director of the IDA. “New data centers that assist companies to anchor themselves in Singapore to reach half the world's population are always welcome here."

The Cloudspace II facility is carrier neutral and offers a direct connection to Pacnet’s submarine cable networks. It features redundant power and cooling systems, advanced fire detection and suppression and a high-level security access system. Customers will be able to take advantage of colocation and connectivity services as well as a variety of managed services from Pacnet.  These include hardware-as-a-service (HaaS) and the Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN). The PEN Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform lets facility customers manage their networking services virtually as well as build their own scalable, cloud-ready networks.

In addition, the new facility means that Pacnet is now operating 455,000-square-feet of data center space throughout 14 cities in the APAC region, all connected via its high-speed network.
