Two new storage-as-a-service (STaaS) solutions have been announced by Ensim Corporation, designed to connect with a variety of popular backup services. The company specializes in automation and orchestration solutions for use with public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
Ensim has rolled out the Ensim File Manager and Ensim Backup Manager, geared toward letting cloud service providers enable private and secure file storage, sharing and backup for customers. Cloud and managed service providers (MSPs) may use their own brand names and data centers to deploy the solutions.
The StaaS offerings feature connectors to online backup services like Mozy, which is powered by VMware and EMC Corporation. They may also be deployed with existing Microsoft services and applications like Exchange, SharePoint and Lync. Ensim’s storage infrastructure may be managed by Microsoft System Center 2012 R2/Hyper V, which enables dynamic scalability to adjust for additional system capacity as needed. All applications and services may then be automated and managed through the Ensim Automation Suite, which provides an end-to-end BSS and OSS solution for ordering, service catalog, billing, management and provisioning.

" Ensim's latest STaaS solutions, including secure sharing and data backup, fill growing demands from business-oriented service providers looking to accommodate customers' evolving storage requirements."
In fact, 451 has found that STaaS is a large market growing at a rapid rate of 47 percent CAGR. The research firm predicts the total market will reach nearly $6 billion in revenues by 2015. 451 has identified 240 STaaS products in the cloud computing marketplace, including stand-alone as well as platform-attached cloud storage along with online backup and archiving.

Features of the new Ensim offerings include the ability to establish and enforce organizational and user-level quotes through a reservation-based model. Alerts may also be set to let customers know when they reach their thresholds so that they may add more capacity or reallocate it among users. Customers may order additional capacity via a pay-per-use model as well, paying only for what is used.
