Don't Fear Replacing IT with MSP, Survey Says

Don't Fear Replacing IT with MSP, Survey Says

By Doug Barney

New research from JDL Technologies shows that more than a third of shops, some 36 percent, use some form of managed service. So the big question, of course, is why. JDL thinks it knows – it is all about minimizing internal IT, the survey found. This and other motivations will drive MSP adoption to 40 percent of these same shops this year, JDL believes.

JDL says IT’s biggest problem is budget shortages, and as well all know, people cost money.

Shrinking the need for more IT workers was the number one MSP benefit for 73 percent of respondents.

Doing more with less came in second, as 68 percent said MSPs help internal staffers be more productive. “And 61 percent indicated that using a Managed Services Provider gives them access to greater technical expertise than they have in-house,” JDL said.

The research was done for JDL by Spiceworks. The research also explored what clients look for in providers. “Asked to identify the most important factor in selecting a Managed Services Provider, price and reputation topped the list, each cited by 86 percent of respondents. The emphasis on price is not surprising, given that only one-quarter of respondents' Information Technology budgets will be larger in 2014 than in 2013, according to the survey,” JDL said. “The other top factors named were reliability and service level agreements (SLAs) and customer references.”

JDL Gives Diabetes Vendor Shot of Services

JDL is helping one company minimize IT and maximize value. Nipro Diagnostics makes it living helping those suffering for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, supplying test strips and blood glucose monitors to help track the disease and choose the proper amount of insulin. And its wares can be found in most every drug store in America.

For a company like Nipro, the key is continuing to develop state of the art products and keep its retailers, which include CVS and Walgreens, properly stocked. To allow it to concentrate more fully on these two goals, Nipro recently commissioned JDL Technologies to provide an array of managed services.

The goal is to JDL help Nipro stay on the leading edge of technology by designing and then installing and managing infrastructure and services to keep Nipro competitive.

Recently JDL announced another win, garnering a $400,000 contract to update the network for the DeSoto Country School District. The upgrade is based in Cisco gear, and is designed to support the E-Rate program, an FCC mandate that helps libraries and schools gain proper and affordable access to the internet and telecom services.
