Managed Service Provider Week in Review

Managed Service Provider Week in Review

By Laura Stotler

This week marked the end for one MSP and cloud provider while paving the way for upstarts. Cloud backup provider Nirvanix is closing its doors in a few weeks, but that means the market opportunity is ripe for new and established backup and storage providers.

Nirvanix has failed to publicly acknowledge the fact that it is shutting down shop, instead privately informing customers that they have until October 15 to move their data to another service. Their closing paves the way for other small backup and storage providers like Attunity, which is offering to move Nirvanix customers to AWS.

Concurrently, One Source Networks (OSN) entered the market this week, offering Backup as a Service (BaaS). The company was already established as an MSP and cloud provider and is now offering BaaS to protect customers’ applications, files and tape backups.

In acquisition news, cloud and data center colocation services provider C7 acquired MSP IntegraTechs Corporation this week. The move will enable C7 to add managed services including IT support, cloud migration, development, security and IT outsourcing to its portfolio. IntegraTechs will be supporting C7’s FuseApp line of services, which uses the VMware vCloud Director to managed VMs in their data centers.

Breakthrough Technology Group (BTG) also acquired MSP CelPro Associates this week. The MSP and mobile systems integrator will form the Mobility Division of BTG, serving corporate and government clients. BTG already offers a variety of managed services and has been working to expand solutions in support of BYOD and a growing need for mobile device management (MDM).
