Australia's Salmat Chooses Fujitsu for Managed IT Services

By Laura Stotler

A multi-million-dollar deal has been announced in which Fujitsu will be providing managed, corporate IT services to Salmat. The five-year contract covers a variety of services for Australia-based Salmat, a provider of multi-channel communications and customer services.

Fujitsu will be providing Salmat with provisioning and management of storage and server environments as well as providing data protection and hosting for internal administrative applications like email.

By turning over management of IT services to an experienced provider, Salmat has freed up resources to focus on its core business initiatives. The company specializes in providing online mobile, voice and mail solutions to help customers provide a high level of customer service as well as drive customer retention and growth.

Communications service providers are increasingly turning to cloud and managed services providers to handle their IT infrastructure, freeing up their money and resources in the process. Telecom provider Orange Poland just announced an expanded contract with MSP CGI in which the company will manage its mobile IT support business systems.

The Salmat announcement coincides with Fujitsu’s recent push in the cloud space. The company has been working to strengthen its cloud portfolio and recently announced its FUJITSU Cloud Initiative, encompassing a variety of integration support services. Given that the company has a strong background in information and communications technology (ICT), it is no surprise that customers like Salmat would want to leverage that expertise.

Fujitsu’s cloud push has been partly based on the company’s own commissioned independent research, which found that 59 percent of decision makers struggle with decisions about the cloud and cloud adoption. Those same decision makers prefer to engage a trusted cloud provider when it comes to cloud deployment, with 78 percent of those queried admitting they will turn to a trusted provider to take over part of all of their cloud implementations. An additional 74 percent are seeking cloud providers with experience in hardware and software solutions, which is where a company like Fujitsu becomes an ideal fit for communications service providers.
