King County in Washington State has to have some IT wisdom, what with Microsoft and its tens of thousands of tech-savvy employees nearby.
The county’s Department of Information Technology wanted to get a better handle on its many IT projects, and found the perfect partner in Innotas. Innotas has a Cloud Portfolio Management line that offers Resource Management (RM), Project Portfolio Management (PPM), and Application Portfolio Management (APM).
The county has more than 13,000 workers, which adds up to a whole heap of IT projects to support. Now these projects can be tracked through the Innotas PPM.
Some 160 IT pros and managers now use the Innotas tool. The data is viewable by the county’s CIO, as well as key departments and committees.
Meanwhile, the Innotas’ Application Portfolio Management (APM) tool lets the IT department do “inventory management of 1,700 applications, including 500 commercial applications, and 1,200 applications that require ongoing support. Innotas APM provides KCIT with a comprehensive view of its current inventory of applications, enabling the IT department to more effectively utilize and manage the applications already in place,” Innotas said.
The county sees itself on the leading edge of IT management. “KCIT is transforming the waywe provide technology services, and by leveraging tools such as Innotas we now have the ability to be proactive in our approach to project governance, application modernization, and IT investments. The Innotas platform is a step in the right direction to help us meet our goals of becoming a more strategic, service-focused organization,” said Bill Kehoe, CIO of King County.
An Innotas Backgrounder
Innotas began six years ago with the goal of bettering IT management through better transparency and visibility, and wanted to deliver this function in the form of Software as a Service (SaaS).
Earlier this year, Innotas was chosen as a leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Cloud-based Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) Services.
Here are Gartner’s criteria. A leader must “provide depth and breadth of functionality in their application service, representing many years of development and innovation. These providers have a large installed base of SaaS customers, can provide functionality and process automation for customers in 30 days or less, and can give customers the ability to incrementally invest in their services through standard 12-month contracts.”
