US Marines $12.8M Managed Satellite Services Contract Awarded to TCS

By Laura Stotler

A new $12.8 million managed services contract for the U.S. military has been awarded to Telecommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS). The company has partnered with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to provide services to the U.S. Marine Corps’ Tactical Satellite Communications Network.

TCS will provide managed satellite services as well as Ku satellite bandwidth, terrestrial support and 24-hour support services in tandem with DISA. The contract covers a 12-month period and has provisions for four one-year option terms. Those options would bring the total contract value to $58.3 million if exercised.

The contract is part of the $2.6 billion Custom SATCOM Solutions contract vehicle, and TCS is now one of eight companies awarded through the program. Managed services covered by the contract include commercial satellite services to various terminals, which will extend the Marine Corps Enterprise Network to deployed users.

TCS has also created a managed services offering to handle real-world missions through a network of commercial satellite bandwidth pools. The solution has the flexibility to increase or decrease bandwidth in various regions in support of the Marine Corps diverse regional operations.

“Through our experience with wireless point-to-point links and commercialization projects, the Marine Corps has come to trust TCS TotalCom solutions,” said Michael Bristol, group president of TCS Government Solutions Group. “Now, we will provide further highly reliable communication technology to deployed forces.”
