New Datto Partner Hopes to Avert Client Disaster

New Datto Partner Hopes to Avert Client Disaster

By Doug Barney

Datto says it is all about partners, and this week’s news that Clare Computer Solutions has just signed on is proof positive.

Clare, based in the San Francisco area, is now adding Datto’s business continuity wares to its existing arsenal of IT consulting, network support, on-demand IT services.

Clare will henceforth carry Datto SIRIS, a tool that uses a hybrid cloud approach to securing and disaster proofing data.

SIRIS is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device that then replicates the local data off to the cloud. In this way shops can restore from the local volumes or the added tier in the cloud.

“Adding Datto keeps with Clare's focus on problem solving rather than product pushing,” says Ralph Lawhorn, president and COO of Clare Computer Solutions. “We have evaluated and successfully deployed several different vendors' solutions for business continuity, allowing us to pinpoint the perfect solution for each client’s specific needs. Datto is a great addition to our arsenal.”

Clare has been in the IT solutions business for over 23 years and focuses on SMBs.

Dialing into Datto

Datto, a disaster recovery vendor that leverages virtualization and the cloud to protect data, has always been about its partners. In fact, Datto sells only through its 5,000 plus partners.

The company uses a hybrid cloud approach to protecting data. Here, data is stored where it is created, such as on a PC or server. It is backed up on an on-premises Datto NAS appliance. Then this data is replicated to the cloud.

What is different about this hybrid cloud approach is that the two tiers of backup data is actually held in virtual machines that don’t just contain the data, but the environment that surrounds it and makes it useful. This way in the event of a crash the VM is activated and business continues as usual.

With Datto, virtual and physical machines are all protected, and recovery time is almost instant.
