Disaster Recovery Awash with New Services as QTS Makes its Case

By Doug Barney

Holy smokes are the backup, restore, and disaster recovery services markets getting crowed! It is all so action packed that MSP Today is having a hard time keeping up.

The latest action involves Quality Technology Services (QTS), which this week announced not one but two new disaster recovery services.

First up is DR ON-Demand, which “offers a robust, image-based replication service for customers with virtual server environments. DR On-Demand is a fully managed service that uses geographically dispersed offline servers that can be activated in case of a disaster. QTS engineers work with customers to determine and customize the required recovery level, from application level to full server failover. This high level of customization makes DR On-Demand a cost-effective business continuity solution,” the company said.

Then there is DR High Availability, which does continuous and real-time replication of both virtual and physical customer servers. “This service uses asynchronous replication between servers in geographically dispersed QTS data centers to provide near zero data loss. Point-in-time recovery options allow customers the flexibility to failover to the most current data or to a specific date and time,” QTS added.

These tools may be of special interest to IBM shops as QTS already offers, under a partnership, IT solutions for Big Blue customers.

“With QTS' disaster recovery services, we were able to easily customize our client's recovery solution according to their business needs and specific recovery requirements,” said Steve Fijalkowski, business unit executive, private cloud-delivery partner services - IBM Global Technology Services. “Our client was excited to find a solution that supports the replication of their large volume of data while meeting both their recovery point and time objectives.”

The QTS Lineup

QTS offers three main services, colocation, custom data centers and cloud and managed services.

The provider has more than 3.8 million square feet of data center space spread across 11 locations from which it serves over 850 customers.

A Converged Partner

QTS just recently chose its partner of the year and for 2013 that partner is the Converged Network Services Group, a data center consultancy and telecom company based in Charlotte, NC.

“Our clients increasingly come to CNSG for advice on both data center services strategy and planning. We’ve invested in providing both colocation and cloud services to our clients through our network of partners, including QTS,” said Ryan Will, managing partner for CNSG Atlanta.
