Managed Service Provider Week in Review

Managed Service Provider Week in Review

By Laura Stotler

The managed service provider (MSP) world was teeming with news this week, including two studies that indicate the market has a very lucrative future.

IT efficiency is driving growth according to a study from MarketsandMarkets indicating the MSP market will swell from $142 billion this year to $256 billion by 2018. That represents a 12.4 percent CAGR. INSIGHT Research also predicts phenomenal growth for the space and puts the numbers at $137 billion in 2012 with the market growing to $235 billion by 2017, an 11.3 percent CAGR.

That growth is certainly represented by the huge number of deals, partnerships and expansions being announced in the MSP space each week. Australian MSP ac3's announcement was a strong indicator, and the company has partnered with CA Technologies on monitoring solutions. ac3 said it has deployed the CA Nimsoft Service Desk and CA Nimsoft Monitor solutions to boost its ICT infrastructure and expand cloud services.

Speaking of CA, the company announced that it had revamped its CA Capacity Management tool this week. The solution is scalable so that service providers and enterprises may build out only the capacity they need, leading to cost savings. It handles capacity management for everything from giant mainframes to virtual systems and hybrid clouds. Based on predictive analytics, the tool also conducts scenario analyses and identifies hardware options to accommodate specific business case scenarios.

On the marketing and branding front, MSP and cloud provider AISG has changed its name to Equinox Communications. The company, which is a subsidiary of Equinox Five, is striving to create a brand that reflects its strong expertise as a cloud service provider. The MSP offers a variety of services including Web hosting, data and voice CPE, security and managed cloud services.
