QTS Lets Websites Failover ASAP

QTS Lets Websites Failover ASAP

By Doug Barney

Quality Technology Services (QTS) is now offering a greater degree of protection for its Web hosting services in the form of a new failover feature.

Aimed largely at existing customers, the website disaster recovery feature is about as simple as it gets – when the website goes down, it fails over to an entirely separate server at a completely different location. Traffic is redirected to the new site.

This not only happens in the case of complete failure, but can also occur when the website is suffering performance problems as measured by preset thresholds. Here, traffic is redirected simply to maintain response time.

All this failover is completely managed as the Web hosting itself is offered as a managed service that is monitored 24x7 for performance and availability. This way, clients are notified of failures ASAP – just like the failover.

The QTS service runs across the redundant global network from Neustar, a network spanning six continents (looks like Neustar skipped Antarctica but hit the rest).

Failover is now ready to service clients that use four different QTS data centers, in Atlanta, Miami, North California and Richmond.

“Avoiding website downtime is vitally important to our customers’ success and we are dedicated to growing our services portfolio to provide an optimal, cost-effective mix of disaster recovery services for businesses of all sizes and requirements,” said Chad Williams, chief executive officer of QTS. “Our website failover service provides comprehensive monitoring and initiates seamless failover action when server performance issues occur.”

The QTS Lineup

QTS offers three main services: colocation, custom data centers and cloud and managed services.

The provider has more than 3.8 million square feet of data center space spread across 11 locations, from which it serves over 850 customers.

A Converged Partner

QTS just recently chose its partner of the year, and for 2013 that partner is the Converged Network Services Group, a data center consultancy and telecom company based in Charlotte, N.C.

“Our clients increasingly come to CNSG for advice on both data center services strategy and planning. We’ve invested in providing both colocation and cloud services to our clients through our network of partners, including QTS,” said Ryan Will, managing partner for CNSG Atlanta.
