ServerPoint.com this week announced a new platform for virtual private server (VPS) hosting, and the company now needs to live up to platform’s name – ColossusCloud, which is now on its third rev.
The new VPS claims to offer better usability, more flexibility and greater speed.
“The third generation of our platform is designed to be about five times faster than our previous one, allowing for deployments of virtual machines in just minutes. It is also powered by a brand new 10gigabit network as well as the fastest storage devices in the industry,” said Erik Johnson, CTO at ServerPoint.com. “The platform also includes features that no one else offers, such as UpdateCentral, which makes it easy to keep your virtual machines up to date, and intra-zone private networking, a feature that increases security of your data between virtual machines.”
A virtual private server is pretty much akin to a virtual machine, but is a virtualization approach favored by Internet providers. Like a VM, it runs within a physical server, alongside other virtual machines. But the VPS is a higher level VM that is entirely separate from the other VMs acting as its own full computer, and is assigned to a specific customer.
The latest ServerPoint.com version is called ColossusCloud Generation 3, and is built to set up virtual machines lickety split. “Operating system templates are kept up to date daily, and thanks to hardware storage acceleration, applications powered by ColossusCloud run faster than any previous generation platforms in the industry,” the company said. “The platform is ideal for the rapid deployment of resources, allowing for scalability to up to 192GBs of RAM, up to 2TBs of storage and up to eight CPU cores, with prices currently starting as low as $15/month.”
Serverpoint.com is now 15 years old, and today focuses on Windows and Linux Web hosting, as well as VPS and dedicated server hosting.
Cartika Partners to Boost its VPS
In April, MSP Today reported on Cartika, and MSP that partnered up to give its VPS a little boost in the form of management from OnApp.
Cartika, which sells managed services and hosting from its Canadian headquarters, is already building new VPS services using the OnApp Cloud Platform, and will host the services in Canada and the U.S.
New wares include “self-managed and Cartika-managed VPS services, managed VPS clusters and complete VPS farms,” the company said. “A migration plan for existing VPS customers will be launched in the very near future, along with packages designed for Cartika's thousands of shared hosting and VPS resellers.”
The Cartika services can be fine-tuned by customers who can decide how much disk, network speed, memory and CPU they need. OnApp adds a number of new capabilities, such as “autoscaling, utility and plan billing, virtual machine templates, snapshots and extensive automation of day-to-day admin tasks for servers and virtual machines,” the MSP said.
