AVG CloudCare Gains Tolly Group Seal of Approval

By Doug Barney

This MSP Today reporter has been covering tech since 1984, and did a six-year stint as news editor for Network World. It was there that I worked first hand with the Tolly Group, which has been testing high-end networking gear for decades. And its founder Kevin Tolly is a seriously smart dude.

That’s why I take the news that Tolly likes AVG’s CloudCare so seriously. CloudCare is a free tool for resellers that let them manage AVG security clients. According to AVG, CloudCare came out on top in a comparative test of remote security administration tools.

The test focused on Windows 7 clients (today, this is the main corporate client) and used virtual machines to create the test environment. “In these tests, AVG CloudCare was the most comprehensive cloud-based endpoint security management solution - meeting all nine of the functionality criteria under review,” AVG said.

“In comparison with the competing platforms tested, the Tolly Group determined that AVG CloudCare currently offers the most comprehensive management functionality including its easy-to-use, intuitive user interface; seamless, integrated ‘push’ install; customizable alerts and pre-defined reports; quarantine management via cloud console; ability to temporarily enable/disable endpoint security services; wake-on-LAN and complete remote control.”

CloudCare, introduced last year, is the main tool AVG pitches to MSPs and even has a special portal to serve that channel. CloudCare helps MSP partners by providing administration of customer sites through the cloud. Like some of its consumer software, MSPs can use CloudCare for free, at least for now.

The tool includes custom reports, alerts, single-click product deactivation or installation, and automatic upgrades.

“From our testing, we found AVG CloudCare to be very easy to use and ideally suited to service providers who want an easy way to remotely manage their small business customer accounts,” said Kevin Tolly, founder of The Tolly Group. “From simple on/off services deployment, to keyless licensing, remote login and pre-set policies, it provides key features you need to manage even your smallest business customer efficiently and cost-effectively.”
