Cookie's Replaces Total Point of Sale System with Something Actually Good

Cookie's Replaces Total Point of Sale System with Something Actually Good

By Doug Barney

Cookie’s Department Store is actually seven stores, all in the New York City area, and has leveraged that retail footprint into a healthy Internet business.

For these types of operation, point of sale (POS) is everything. After all, it’s all about getting paid fast and efficiently. The problem was that the chain’s POS system was looking at the worst side of three decades.

Cookie’s turned to service provider Tabush for help. The vendor replaced the POS system, and at the same time delivered a wider array of IT services including a network reconstruction.

But the whole starting point was the darn POS. “After our meeting with Cookie’s, we realized that they didn’t fully understand the complexity of the project they were pursuing; and according to our experts they weren’t ready for implementation,” Tabush said. “They listened to us and put the project on hold, saving their reputation with customers and lost financial investments.”

Last year is when all the POS magic happened. Tabush was given nearly total control, and “tasked with managing the entire project. This included all infrastructure, servers, hardware, telecom and back-end work. After carefully studying the requirements and situation, Tabush ‘took the reins’ as Project Manager and implemented a fully-redundant network to cover all Cookie’s stores, offices, and distribution centers,” the provider explained. “This included managing and securing wireless systems for handheld scanners, off-site back up, disaster recovery, and 24×7 monitoring. Most importantly, Tabush implemented its state-of the-art AMP network management software (wireless Airwave Management Platform) to control and secure Cookie’s over 250 PCs and POS terminals.”

Next on Cookie’s plate is making sure the e-commerce and warehousing tools are tightly integrated.
