Sick of Malware? GFI Will Get Rid of It for Free

By Doug Barney

MSPs are often stuck with the unpleasant, difficult and often thankless task of getting rid of malware. But if you are an MSP and partner of GFI Software, that vendor will take care of these little nasties on its own dime.

And the tool that makes this an unlikely scenario is the updated VIPRE 6.2 which is part of the GFI MAX Managed Antivirus tool and should stop this malware in its evil little tracks.

VIPRE has a pretty interesting history. It was developed by Sunbelt Software, which was acquired and absorbed by GFI. Earlier this year the VIPRE business was spun off and turned into a new company ThreatTrack.

ThreatTrack is now a close partner to former parent GFI, continuing to provide the security that helps drive GFI’s partner business.

In fact, GFI is a direct competitor to AVG, which through its recent acquisition of LPI, has an integrated RMM/security offering just like GFI.

VIPRE entered a crowded market, ruled by Symantec, AVG, McAffee, Trend Micro, Sophos and others. The VIPRE edge was performance. While many tools got larger and more unwieldy over the years, VIPRE was designed like a Porsche, light and fast, the former CEO of Sunbelt once told me. GFI uses the term low-impact, which means much the same thing.

Free Removal Machine

Even the best malware protection occasionally lets a bad bit of code through. Then it has to be removed, which takes tech time. But MSPs that use the GFI MAX service can have GFI techs remove this malware gratis.

“Our free malware removal service for GFI MAX customers is not something that we have seen other vendors offer but it underscores our absolute confidence in the anti-malware technology that is provided by the VIPRE engine,” said Dr. Alistair Forbes, general manager of the GFI MAX business unit. “We have seen strong adoption of Managed Antivirus as result of the combination of the power of the VIPRE technology, ease of deployment from the dashboard and low overhead compared to other products on the market. This latest release sees further improvements in the level of security with no downside in system performance. We are backing our claims with a free malware removal service – in the unlikely event that malware does get onto an MSP customer site protected by VIPRE then our technicians will carry out full remediation – at our cost.”

The GFI malware tool today protects over 250,000 endpoints, all thanks to MSP partners. It can be deployed as a standalone tools or as part of a GFI MAX RemoteManagement solution.
