Itronis Pumps up Cloud Backup

By Doug Barney

Itronis has a new release of its cloud backup technology focused on better handling of virtual infrastructure.

The new Itronis Spring Release ’13 may have cool technology, but also a pretty sweet way of naming new releases. Hat’s off!

Itronis is intensely focused on MSPs, and partners can brand the cloud backup tool as if it was their own.

“Our Spring Release '13 offers VARs and MSPs the technology, resources and support needed to scale success and offer an invaluable backup and recovery service perfectly suited to support physical and virtualized environments with ease and efficiency,” said Rick Faulk, Intronis CEO.

In addition to the new release, Itronis just announced a new data center in Montreal, Canada.

One item in the Spring Release ’13 basket is QuickSpin, which restores virtualized hardware. “Priced at a fixed per-host cost, QuickSpin offers Change Block Tracking (CBT) for speedier incremental backups, flexible data retention and archiving settings, as well as 256-bit AES encryption for maximum data protection,” Itronis said.

Specifically for the channel is an improved partner portal with better access controls and more customization.

For the white boxers out there, there is the Branding Wizard that makes it easier for MPS to customize the portal so it looks like they built it.

One analyst was briefed on the new software. “Backup and recovery is a business critical service for SMBs and represents a growing, high-value opportunity for IT channel partners throughout North America,” said IDC storage analyst Dan Iacono. “Intronis' Spring Release '13 strives to simplify cloud-based backup, speed time to recovery and provide a SaaS-based data recovery solution that delivers greater business value to channel partners, as well as the SMBs they serve.”

O, Canada

The new Montreal data center is largely aimed at Canadian partners. There are rules in Canada that determine where data is managed, and a local data centers helps meet those regulations.

One Canadian partner thinks the data center is a competitive advantage. “With Intronis' new Canadian Data Center and proven VMware capabilities we gain a significant client services advantage and are able to provide greater peace of mind by assuring our client's data is stored in country and readily recoverable,” said John Atwood, system support specialist, MicroAge IT Solutions in Alberta, Canada. “It's definitely a big win for Intronis' Canadian partners and will certainly help us better address the needs of our clients working within highly-regulated or data sensitive vertical markets such as healthcare and government.”

What’s in it for MSPs

Itronis designs its cloud storage wares with MSPs in mind. That’s why the management console includes billing, scheduling, and account setup.

That’s also why Itronis is so liberal with its branding, allowing MSPs to fully brand the service and the portal that supports it as their own. “We recast our cloud backup software with your logo and your brand, so your clients won't know that you're using our platform. You can rebrand your website, software, and notifications at your convenience,” Itronis argues.

And, “you can use our portal customization tool to create your own completely branded portal for your clients in just four easy steps: Upload your logo, specify a color scheme, provide company information, and customize email notifications. In just minutes, your customer-facing web portal is entirely branded, meaning your clients will only see your own imagery.”
