Ipanema Lines up AppsWork Partners

By Doug Barney

It was late last spring that Ipanema launched AppsWorks, and now as this spring turns to summer it has 14 partners are already on board.

AppsWorks is a service that offers application visibility and guarantees application performance.

On the visibility side, the service can show how an app is being used and its performance levels – which can be defined in the form of an Application Quality Score (AQS).

It can even look historically at app performance, such as by hour, day, week or month.

To help insure that critical apps (such as the CEO’s Excel) perform, AppsWorks offers dynamic bandwidth control.

Besides letting IT set bandwidth based on how critical an apps is (maybe like the CEO’s Saleforce.com account), it can also “protect the real-time characteristics of time sensitive application flows such as Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) or hosted virtual desktop communication,” the company said.

Finally, AppsWorks does WAN optimization, which is a similar technology to bandwidth allocation.

For optimization, you can “accelerate traffic while guaranteeing critical application performance in bandwidth-restricted locations. WAN Optimization mitigates the impact of delay for chatty applications like Common Internet File System (CIFS), increases the available bandwidth and reduces application transfer time,” Ipanema said.

So that’s what’s in it for IT. What about MSPs and resellers? Ipanema sees that partners are moving their own shops to managed services and the cloud. AppsWorks not only eases that migration, but allows those partners to resell the same tech in the form of services.

And the same tech can make sure the services you already provide are fast, reliable, and visible.

“Selling commoditized cloud services won’t enable you to differentiate you form your competitors. Selling a service with guaranteed application performance and subsequent reports does,” argued Ipanema, adding “How can you keep control over your customer with cloud services deployed form different SaaS providers?”

The company sees a ready IT market, especially amongst SMBs that are seeing the performance of network-centric apps such as VDI and VoIP never fail to disappoint. This is where the Ipanema tool steps in. “Provided as a Service, it guarantees application performance for on-premise and cloud apps, and provides unique visibility, over the network,” Ipanema concluded, suggesting that partners bundle the service with existing offers and use it as the basis of extra revenue and to support SLAs.

The AppsWorks Approach

Survey Says

Ipanema commissioned a survey it calls KillerApps 2013.

The report found that 90 percent of those surveyed had performance problems in the last year, application performance problems that is!

Plus “69 percent of US organizations confirmed that application performance problems such as slowness or non-responsiveness are becoming more frequent in their organizations.”

Together that should mean a ready market for MSPs.

“It’s amazing to see how many small and medium sized businesses are looking for services that guarantee application performance,” said Rogier van der Wal, vice president Cloud Services, Ipanema Technologies. “With new solutions such as unified communications, including MS Lync as well as applications such as MS Office 365 becoming increasingly common in the workplace, networks are becoming more strained. Businesses cannot let this situation continue as it has a direct link to end user experience and productivity.”

Two partners are not just ready to sell, but to talk as well.

“We chose AppsWork because it’s easy for us to deploy, it fits the needs of our customers and is easy for them to consume and most importantly, it’s affordable,” said Scott Schulze, director of operations at Fusion Technology Solutions.

The CEO of Orange County IT Support, Mark Essayian, sees a nice fit. “AppsWork is channel friendly and integrates nicely within our suite of solutions. The service is an enabling technology that means whichever networked application we are deploying for a customer, be it UC or cloud apps, we know that Ipanema’s technology will guarantee they perform in line with the needs of our customer.”
