We at MSP Today don’t usually go too crazy covering vendor awards. But we do look at the big ones, and instead of yammering on about how many people voted and how great the recipient is, we use the award as a launch pad to analyze the vendor and the market.
In fact, we’ve been meaning to write more about the $5.8 billion service provider Dimension Data which just won the 2013 Microsoft Communications Partner of the Year Award.
Some 3,000 companies were vying for the honor, which is based on providing innovation and effective customer solutions. Of course, these solutions had better be based on Microsoft technology!
Many of the Redmond kudos have to do with Microsoft Lync. “As the company expands its portfolio of services around Lync, including its recently launched Cloud Services for Microsoft, Uptime Support Services for Lync and Managed Services for Lync, more and more clients are asking for our help to manage and operate their unified communications environment,” said Peter Menadue, Dimension Data's group general manager, Microsoft Solutions, in a statement.
Just this past February, the service provider unveiled a new Lync managed service.
“With compelling enhancements such as improved enterprise architecture and voice, HD video conferencing, and SKYPE federation coming in Lync 2013, demand for Lync is set to grow within our client base,” said Menadue back in February. “In fact, we have already received great interest in the platform. Dimension Data has tremendous experience as a managed services provider, and more and more clients were asking us to support and manage their Lync infrastructure. It therefore made sense for us offer Managed Services for Microsoft Lync. This service complements our existing Cloud Services for Lync, Managed Services for IPT and our Managed Services for Visual Communications offerings.”
There is Far More to Life Microsoft
Don’t think that Dimension Data brings in all its $5.8 in annual revenue just selling Microsoft. Besides hooking up with the software giant, it is linked to network kingpin Cisco. In fact, recently Dimension nabbed Cisco’s Advanced IP Next-Generation Network Architecture Specialization.
Now Dimension can offer Cisco IP Next Generation Networks services, which is how Cisco defined high-bandwidth networks that use Cisco gear as the foundation.
In other news, Dimension just announced that its Public Managed Cloud Platform (MCP) is now available in Japan. These MCPs support managed hosting and public cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS).
