MSP Webhosting.net strode more strongly into the storage mart by making Storage Made Easy’s file storage service available to new and existing Webhosting.net customers.
Some cloud backup services are just that, all about backup. In fact, because the data is encrypted, often only IT can get at it, and so only when there is a crash or data loss.
Storage Made Easy is different. Sure, it stores the files. But it is much more about data access, in its case allowing end users to use any device to get at the data. And to get at the data no matter what device it is stored on, a local device, SAN or NAS, or in the cloud. Thinks of it like Microsoft SkyDrive on steroids.
While the storage vendors promises ready data access, it apparently does not scrimp on security. “Storage Made Easy supplements existing cloud and network security measures with the highest levels of regulatory compliance, audit tracking, and information protection,” the company argues.
Services where you can get at files from any device are particularly suited for the new world of BYOD.
“One of the main reasons for our choosing the product is our push into the BYOD market. Our customers are demanding a single platform for multiple cloud services, and Storage Made Easy allows us to deliver. Using Storage Made Easy enhances our customers' experience and revenue stream with minimal integration,” said Jose Uribe, COO at Webhosting.net.Meanwhile, 15-year-old Webhosting.net is a broad-based MSP and service provider. It currently offers two backup services, one for VMware and Nimble Storage aimed at business continuity.
It also has cloud and virtual hosting, hosts Microsoft Exchange, and does colocation.
The new storage service has cloud and virtual hooks. First it runs as an appliance on top of OpenStack. And on the IT side it integrated with the MSPs current storage and virtual machine infrastructure.
Storage Made Easy thinks it should be an easy MSP sell. “Webhosting.net’s thousands of clients are demanding complete connectivity to all information, no matter their physical location,” said Storage Made Easy General Manager, Americas, Doug Rich. “We enable Webhosting.net to provide the service with minimal hassle on their part and no hassle on the part of its customers.”
The provision should be eased through both single sign-on and by allowing the use of Microsoft’s nearly ubiquitous Active Directory for administration.
