Global Capacity and EarthLink Extend Network Reach with Wholesale Services Agreement

Global Capacity and EarthLink Extend Network Reach with Wholesale Services Agreement

By Rachel Ramsey

Global Capacity, a provider of network services and connectivity, and EarthLink, Inc., an IT services, network and communications provider, recently established a wholesale buy and sell agreement to extend the network reach for both service providers.

I got the chance to speak with both Global Capacity and EarthLink at COMPTEL PLUS in Las Vegas about what they offer and how they differentiate themselves in the industry.

While EarthLink has aggressively built out its South and Northeast network through targeted acquisitions of ITC Deltacom, One Communications and STS Telecom, it can't place its network everywhere its customers need to be. With this agreement, the company will be able to procure off-net services for multisite customers by leveraging bilateral interconnects to Global Capacity's One Marketplace in New York City, Chicago and Atlanta points of presence (PoPs).

Global Capacity’s One Marketplace provides EarthLink with automated pricing and service delivery for network access solutions while providing visibility and efficiency within a fragmented and complex market. It enables real-time access to both client-specific rates as well as competitive market rates, automating the end-to-end process of off-net access procurement, thereby extending the reach of EarthLink’s TDM and Ethernet services.

Ben Edmond, chief revenue officer at Global Capacity, explained the company’s “secret sauce” is its automation for delivery, ability to order, front-end for pricing and back-end for service and support and providing optimal customer experience. Its One Marketplace offers automated pricing, ordering and provisioning of services, easily accessible via an online interface.

Edmond explained one of the core challenges in the industry today is converting TDM to Ethernet and an IP world. Ethernet is the best mechanism to transport and shift carrier and enterprise customers from legacy to IP because it is more efficient and scalable, and Global Capacity aims to deliver a more consistent experience across networks for customers.

EarthLink operates an extensive network, including 28,800 route fiber miles, 90 metro fiber rings and four secure data centers providing ubiquitous IP coverage across more than 90 percent of the country. Pat Hannon, senior VP at EarthLink, explained its network in the South and its white label for IT services, including security, data and voice CPE, cloud hosting, ASP Web hosting, managed services and a customer interface portal, set it apart from competitors. The company, which lit a major data center in North Carolina in under 30 days, provides a number of custom projects to various carriers in hard-to-reach places.

Edmond emphasizes Global Capacity’s value to customers; it allows users to extend their network reach, where and when they want to, efficiently, cost-effectively and in a manner that delivers the best customer experience.  To learn more about the agreement between Global Capacity and EarthLink, click here.
