Virtualization is everywhere. It started with servers and PCs, then moved onto storage and then networking. Now with virtual I/O, we don’t even need physical NICs anymore.
Ipanema is now applying virtualization to application performance. In fact it is using virtualization to guarantee the performance of applications that are themselves virtualized.
The newly announced Ipanema virtual|engine is designed to guarantee the performance of applications such as cloud apps, social media, video, unified communications and ERP. Speeds can be boosted and supported either within a corporate network, across the Internet, or within a service provider.
The virtual/engine is delivered as hardware, and customers can opt for the smaller vip|e 20ax which aimed at offices will less than 300 users, or the larger vip|e 140ax for data centers.
The virtual|engine offers a way for customers to set up and use Ipanema’s Autonomic Networking System (ANS), and run this over existing virtual infrastructure.
So what is ANS? “A system that governs itself - Ipanema's Autonomic Networking System is at the heart of Ipanema’s ability to connect network infrastructure to the enterprise’s business goals. Self-learning, self-configuring and self-optimizing, ANS is the only system to deliver fully automated application visibility, WAN optimization, QoS and control, and dynamic WAN selection over the enterprise’s global network, whatever its size and technology,” is what the company says.
So what, then, is virtual/engine? “We’ve basically taken all our software features and turned them into a product that runs on a virtual platform. This enables huge flexibility in deployment models for our customers and partners” said Mark Burton, Ipanema’s Product Management Director. “In the current release, the virtual|engine runs on VMWare ESXi hypervisor and we are planning to support other virtualization platforms such as Linux KVM in the near future.”
Ipaneme for MSPs
On the managed service provider front, Ipanema describes its benefits this way:
- Deliver application-centric services which provide a direct coupling between the enterprise business objectives and the delivered value;
- Capture IT budgets by linking the service value to enterprises’ IT transformations like cloud computing, Unified Communications, desktop virtualization and hybrid networking;
- Increase profitability by focusing sales strategies away from commoditized MPLS and improve margin through to higher value network services;
- Reduce churn and acquire new customers by selling innovative and high value services. Enable full visibility over application usage and performance over the network
