EMC Service Provider Program Nabs Another MSP

EMC may be known for its massive range of on-premises storage wares, but it has also staked out a significant position in the cloud.

It has a four major areas of managed services, including remote management programs offering monitoring and management 24/7; managed availability services, providing business continuity through a variety of recovery tools; storage managed services, featuring establish management and control procedures; and residency services that address staffing and skills gaps.

EMC also addresses the cloud by selling products that help IT build their own private clouds, with many of these tools based on VMware, which is owned by EMC but maintains an independent brand.

But hardware is still the company’s bread and butter, and here, EMC arms MSPs with storage and virtualization tools upon which to base services.

EMC’s newest partner is iomart Group plc from Glasgow, Scotland. iomart is now part of EMC’s Velocity Service Provider program. “We have been working with iomart for a number of years as a customer and are now delighted to welcome them to the Velocity Service Provider Program this year as they continue to grow their portfolio around differentiated and innovative public and private cloud options powered by EMC technologies,” noted Ross Fraser, vice president of EMEA Global Alliances for EMC.

iomart mainly serves the U.K., but is looking to expand more aggressively into Europe. The company currently has seven data centers, all tied together through a fiber network.

Eight months ago, iomart set up EMC’s Avamar deduplication and backup software, which became a part of iomart’s Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution.

By being part of Velocity, iomart can work more closely with EMC to build and sell new services.

“Becoming a strategic member of the EMC Velocity Service Provider Program is the next stage in our relationship with the world’s leading provider of cloud based technologies. This is a really important partnership for iomart Group and will create a new opportunity for us to sell our services to customers in the UK, Europe and beyond,” said Angus MacSween, CEO at iomart.
