Managed Service Provider Week in Review

Managed Service Provider Week in Review

By Laura Stotler

Two companies forged their commitment to expanding their managed services practices with major investment announcements this week. Managed service provider (MSP) Logicalis Group led the way with the news that it will acquire four European subsidiaries of 2e2 in a deal valued at $31 million.

Logicalis will take over the Spanish, Irish, Channel Islands and Netherlands operations of 2e2. The acquisition includes the company's systems integration business, operated under the Morse banner, and 2e2's IT service management (ITSM) consultancy in the Netherlands, which also offers ITSM-as-a-Service. The move builds on the MSP's expansion strategy throughout mainland Europe and will also create a new center of excellence for service management at the Netherlands' hub, operating as Logicalis SMC (service management consultancy).

NextiraOne UK also forged its commitment to its Managed Services business this week with the announcement that it will invest $1.5 million to enhance its portfolio and create better service delivery. The provider will also strengthen its overall team and work to add genuine business value for customers through the investment. NextiraOne has also created a new "Smart tasking" Managed Service model as part of the initiative, providing flexible support to customers as well as on-demand services for dynamically responding to clients' changing needs.

SAP-certified hosting and cloud services giant Savvis Inc. also had a major announcement in the managed, cloud services space with new global, subscription-based hosting services for SAP AG's SAP HANA platform. The partnership gives enterprises a way to utilize Big Data through Savvis cloud services. Benefits include real-time instant entry into the analytical database transaction platform through Savvis, which completely supports and maintains the infrastructure and resources to support it. SAP HANA streamlines planning, analytics and sentiment assessment for real-time action.

XO Communications also launched its new XO Intelligent WAN Solution, providing network performance, security and visibility for IT and network managers. Designed to help managers get ahead of daily network challenges, the solution includes intelligent networking with easy connectivity for offices, data centers and branch locations with the goal of unifying employees, customers and suppliers. The offering utilizes the XO MPLS IP-VPN, providing a private, application-aware network service so that network and management staff may prioritize applications and network traffic to work toward a more scalable network infrastructure.
