Redstone Sets Groundwork for Expansion with Brocade VCS Fabric Deployment

By Colleen Lynch

Managed service provider Redstone has chosen Brocade’s VCS Fabric technology to facilitate the company’s next major upgrade to its network, as well as its planned data center Ethernet fabric deployment.

“As a Brocade reseller, we already knew that the Brocade solutions were second to none, so deploying Brocade VCS Fabric technology in our environment was an easy decision to make," said Fraser Fisher, managing director for Redstone.

Brocade’s VDX 6720 and 6730 Data Center Switches, along with the company’s VCS Fabric technology, will be deployed by Redstone in order to pave the way for the company’s future expansion as well as to meet the demands of its growing customer base.

“Over the last few years, we have seen a huge increase in demand for hosted services,” Fisher explained. “Our portfolio of offerings traditionally focused around co-location services, but more recently our customers have been looking for more sophisticated cloud-based solutions as data volumes skyrocket.”

Fisher added that customers are “looking to move core applications off-premise, and leverage the operational benefits of applications such as VDI and VoIP.”

Two of Redstone’s primary data centers – located in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire – have already undergone deployment of Brocade’s services, and now have on-demand applications such as VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure).

“In the short time that the network has been live, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in speed and reliability,” said Fisher. “We are now able to better predict capacity requirements and utilization, and have already scaled the network to support 4,000 virtual machines. With the new environment, we are already planning for the future, developing new service offerings knowing full well that we have a network that can cope with whatever we ask of it. That kind of confidence is priceless.”

This new confidence offered by Brocade has been helpful in setting a blueprint for Redstone’s future development.

“Knowing that Brocade’s open architecture allows us to work with an array of vendors in delivering business solutions to our clients means that the sky’s the limit for us,” Fisher concluded. “Our business is built around giving customers a choice, and the Brocade platform gives us the confidence to extend our value proposition beyond its current state. Brocade VCS Fabric technology--combined with the wider network refresh--gives us a bullet-proof foundation.”

All of Brocade’s routers and Ethernet access switches are cloud-optimized with an eye to scalability and flexibility, as well as an aim to decrease overhead without compromising on performance.

Redstone is now one of many companies who have been chosen to deploy Brocade’s solutions. For more information on the products involved, visit www.brocade.com.
