New Kontron SYMKLOUD Series Simplifies Cloud Deployments for MSPs

A brand new series of cloud platform solutions, that aims to simplify how managed service providers (MSPs) deploy applications in cloud infrastructure, has been announced by Kontron. The SYMKLOUD series is designed to transform and simplify the way providers of network equipment and cloud services deploy their web-based, machine-to-machine (M2M) and mobile applications within the cloud.

The SYMKLOUD platform minimizes energy consumption and OPEX costs and aims to narrow the gap between commodity and cloud servers. It is easily scalable and managed and derives its design from Kontron's extensive experience in the carrier grade and network server space, with a focus on meeting the requirements of next-generation data centers.

The new platform offers modular integration of switching, load balancing and processing within a lower power and compact 2U, 21-inch deep design. This compact configuration requires four to eight times fewer fiber and copper cables because of the integrated switching architecture, and extensive power management adapts power consumption to the actual workload. This means that SYMKLOUD dynamically powers up or down processors to generate significant energy savings.

The new series is also processor agnostic and may run multiple applications across multiple independent, low-power, high-performance processors.

"The idea was to design a server that was more than just a server; a platform that made it incredibly easy to build out cloud-based networks," said Benoit Robert, Kontron executive director, product management, Communications Business Unit. "We successfully engineered a cloud platform that is thoroughly versatile, condensed with rack-level functionalities, and still attractively priced for a cloud computing market. SYMKLOUD is a bold new concept ready to make new converts among cloud service providers."

"For Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), the delivery of subscription-based applications is becoming a main focus as it's beginning to affect its end-user reputation," added Rob Bamforth, principal mobile industry analyst at Quocirca. "Without the correct infrastructure and server system, these operators will end up delivering unfulfilled tariff promises, making their charges unjustified. These MNOs will need to begin investing in a carrier platform that not only delivers a wide range of bandwidth hungry applications to their end-users, but also allow for cloud platforms that enable M2M and 'Internet of all things' communications to be their gateway to efficient data management and scalability."
