Cologix, a data center colocation services and interconnection company, recently announced the introduction of its Standard Connections product, which was only available in Toronto, Canada, to a few other cities in Canada and the U.S.
Cologix is a Colorado-based company that offers largely scalable interconnection services and secure colocation services for facilities located in several North American cities.
According to a recent report, "Cologix, a network neutral interconnection and colocation company, announced today the platform-wide launch of its Standard Connections product. The product has been available in Toronto and is now being expanded into Cologix’s carrier hotel data centers in Dallas, Minneapolis, Montreal and Vancouver."
The Standard Connections product's advantage is that it allows the customer to leverage leased access into an environment controlled by Cologix to colocate a single router or Ethernet switch. Through Standard Connections, customers who need a bigger market presence and reach can get cheap and low-risk access to network providers in Cologix’s Meet-Me-Rooms, and to network customers on the colocation floors.
The Standard Connections product now can be purchased by customers at 1950 North Stemmons in Dallas, 511 11th Avenue South in Minneapolis, 1250 Rene Levesque West in Montreal and 555 West Hastings Street in Vancouver. The product features individual racks for switches and routers, a redundant uninterruptible power supply, and a digital cross connect system that brings the leased access from the network provider in a Meet-Me-Room to the point of presence.
Cologix may be just implementing standard Connections in Dallas, Minneapolis, Montreal and Vancouver, but the company already has over 100 customers, including Hurricane Electric, Sohonet and Epik Networks.
Reid Fisher, director at Hurricane Electric, has stated that the use of Standard Connections over the last two years has broadened their network reach, while they continued their strategic global expansion. Other companies, like Sohonet, use Standard Connections to extend their geographic reach.
Dave Scammell, CEO at Sohonet, mentions that they used the product to direct traffic from Vancouver and Toronto to their global network. Regan Kerry, CTO, said Epik Networks uses Standard Connections to help lower its switching costs.
