SAS Hires Staff from rPath

SAS, a company that provides business analytics software and services, recently hired select team members from rPath (News - Alert), a North Carolina-based provider of next-generation system automation technologies. Apart from increasing SAS’s cloud and on-demand domain expertise, the agreement will help SAP (News - Alert) better automate the set up and management of SAS solutions in any virtual environment.

rPath provides a platform for enterprise IT organizations, independent software vendors (ISVs) and on-demand service providers to automate the process of constructing (or packaging), deploying and updating software stacks across physical, virtual and cloud-based environments. The company manages all of its components and dependencies under version control and acts as a model driven and version controlled repository and software distribution hub.

“Our customers are telling us that the cloud and other virtualization platforms are critical technologies for them, and they want greater use of SAS (News - Alert) throughout their organizations,” said Keith Collins, chief technology officer at SAS, in a statement. “By acquiring rPath’s key technology and industry knowledge, we will expand our commitment to the virtual applications and appliances space on a global enterprise level. In addition, we will further enhance our ability to build and deliver SAS solutions, such as SAS High Performance Analytics, in a cloud environment. This is a great fit for SAS and we’re excited to have employees of rPath join our team.”

In related company news, SAS will join world-class marketing executives at NCDM 2012 to discuss the role analytics plays in transforming big data into usable customer insight to make marketing more effective and efficient. Lori Schafer, executive advisor, SAS, is moderating the panel titled, How Data is Transforming Strategic Marketing,” with executives from leading organizations to pinpoint key areas of friction between marketing and technology as well as discuss best practices in alignment and collaboration.
