Pano System for Cloud Offers True Zero Client Cloud Computing Via Google Chrome

Pano Logic (News - Alert), a provider of zero client desktop virtualization, recently announced an interesting twist on cloud computing with Pano System for Cloud. The basic concept of this platform is to minimize the cost for organizations moving to Web-based applications by eliminating the need for a local operating system altogether. The really interesting part is that the whole thing works by leveraging Google's (News - Alert) Chrome browser as the interface.

Google Chrome recently became the world's number one browser, according to StatCounter (News - Alert), with 32.76 percent of the global browser market share, topping the long-dominant Internet Explorer by 0.82 percent.

Pano System for Cloud provides the most cost-effective computing platform for businesses, schools, governments and other organizations seeking an alternative to costly PC-based or thin client models. Pano already has a large client base from its zero-client desktop virtualization technology and the company plans to sell those same customers on Pano System for Cloud.

"Zero-client computing is a very strict definition," said Mike Fodor, executive vice president of customer success, in a statement. "We see management and complexity of the endpoint is what's really driving total cost of ownership, so we created a true zero client that has no CPU, has no software drivers, no operating system, no firmware."

The Pano platform actually centralizes all computing activities in the cloud, providing users with no more than is necessary: a familiar browser interface and access to Web-based applications. Other Web-based computing products still require some form of endpoint processing, increasing the cost compared to Pano's solution.

"Pano Logic is disrupting the economics of enterprise computing and providing a true cloud computing platform for organizations embracing cloud-based productivity applications," said John Kish, president and CEO of Pano Logic, in a press release. "For those organizations that don't require a full Windows environment, the transition is seamless with immediate benefits. The end user sees the Chrome browser interface. The IT manager sees a simple management console. The CTO sees staff spending less time managing the desktop. The CIO sees a path to the cloud. And the CFO sees savings adding up."

Pano System for Cloud starts at as little as $5 per user based on one $999 perpetual server license for 200 users.
