CSC and Proximetry Collaborate over Delivery of Smart Grid Network Management Cloud Service

CSC (News - Alert), a provider of technology-enabled business solutions and services, recently announced a collaborative agreement with Proximetry over the use of its AirSync platform, which will form the base for the development of a new and advanced smart grid network management cloud service. Proximetry (News - Alert) is a provider of wireless network and performance management software solutions.

The AirSync Cloud enables utility operators to optimize their smart grid communication networks by providing network management for multi-vendor and multi-radio private as well as public networks. The AirSync software from Proximetry is a Smart Grid Network Management System designed to offer device configuration and management, network monitoring and feedback as well as software management. It also offers QoS and Traffic Shaping in addition to supporting network topology visualization for managed devices.

In a release, Jill Feblowitz, vice president, IDC (News - Alert) Energy Insights, said that, “In the age of instant information, rapid response and smart devices, utilities must have an unprecedented level of expertise in managing the change impacting communication networks. Agility, flexibility and the degree to which they’re equipped to extend the same network communication service levels provided in the data center to the grid transformation — with the right people, processes and technologies — will determine when and how well the benefits of the smart grid will gain traction.”

Benefits offered by the solution include improved visibility and better control of the network and enhanced level of customer service. Utilities will also benefit from improved financial efficiency and control over budgeting along with optimized security and availability of the grid. Additionally, utilities leveraging the solution will be able to better monitor and measure their networks. Furthermore, a foundation based on scalable infrastructure and standards-based communications will be established that will support development of smart grid technologies of the future.

Robert Welch, president, Chemical, Energy and Natural Resource Group, CSC, said, “Realizing the full potential of smart grid technology requires a sophisticated, adaptable enterprise architecture that can interactively collect, synthesize, report on and respond to vast amounts of data collected in real time. We’re offering the market a multi-vendor, multi-radio as a service solution that provides enhanced flexibility, improved performance and, in most cases, cost savings that can be passed on to the customer — a key competitive differentiator in these uncertain economic times.”
